Description - Letter 2546. Cooke reflects upon the American holiday of Thanksgiving and discusses the idea of a "national" holiday. He recalls how the birthday of George Washington was observed as a holiday in most US states but not Idaho (until 1956). Cooke then describes the American Thanksgiving ritual feast and contemporary concerns with diet and health, as well as the modern custom of granting a Presidential pardon to a turkey.
